Hero's Legacy Camp

Hero’s Legacy Camp is a specialized therapy camp for children of soldiers who died fighting for Ukraine’s freedom. Each camp is a one week program in Zakopane, Poland where the children work with therapists to learn how to grieve the loss of their parent in a healthy way. The program uses a combination of group and individual therapy, coupled with field trips and excursions in the Tatra mountains to provide real support to Ukrainian children. They learn to name and feel their feelings and release some of the pain they’ve had to carry after the loss of their dad.

The camp gives kids space to grieve, tools to cope with their new reality, and a community that understands them their grief without them having to say a word. It’s a place where war feels far away and where they can have a childhood again, even if only for a week.

Denys, 14, attended Hero’s Legacy Camp in 2025. His feelings at the end of camp: “It's strange, there is no fighting here, no sirens, nothing flies or explodes here. It's like I went back three years.”

Every detail from the location, to therapy activies, to field trips is designed with care and intentionality. We don’t hide from difficult topics like the loss of dad or the on-going war. Our goal is to send the kids home a little more whole than when they arrived to us.

Each camp accommodates 25 kids, supported by 2 psychologists and a team of childcare staff. Since the first camp in June 2023, Liberty Ukraine has hosted 9 camps, each one week long. Camps take place during the summer months and around school breaks not to interrupt the children’s school year.
